“Music motivates him and makes him feel he can conquer the world, “ as he said, an upcoming Afrobeat Artist, with the name, Ahmed Malik, aka Boy Maliq, has said he is thriving in music because he sees it as a spiritual connection. His passion for excellence has spurred him to release some songs which he hopes can win him big awards in the future.

Born on August 8, 2004, Boy Maliq is an indigene of Benue State who grew up in Ikorodu, Lagos. Speaking on how he started his career, he said, “I began while I was in primary school, during end-of-the-year party, where pupils showcase their talents. Before then, I have been singing but I could not tell how good I was.

“What I did then perform other artistes’ songs. I can take anyone’s song and sing my own version. I started with ‘Omo Abule Sowo’ by Olamide. What inspired me was the motivation I got from other people. People encouraged me to sing and they said I am good.”

Boy Maliq may be young in the industry but he has a burning desire to prosper. He has pushed himself over the years and he is confident he will achieve his goals. By doing his ‘freestyle’ and posting them online, he has been able to gain several followers.

Some persons have cheered him to the path he desires. Asides the support of his family and friends, Boy Maliq has his feet in the industry because of the role his record label, Obafunshy Records, has played. The youngster said he has a fantastic experience with his boss and he will continue to work hard and never relent.

Furthermore, the singer spoke about the impact of Obafunshy Records on his career. He said, “He (his boss) has done a lot for me. He is a great man. He is my motivator and has sorted out his welfare and is taking good care of him, and I am very grateful for that.”

Speaking on the artistes he would like to do collaborations with, Boy Maliq said, “I would like to do a feature with Fireboy. The reason is that there is something about him. I like his flow and style of music. He is one of my inspirations too. I would like to work with him.”

He also said that in the next five years, his desire is to see himself on a stage receiving the Grammy Awards.

Although he is moving on a path of growth, he has some reservations about certain occurrences in the industry. Hence, he would like to see a change in this aspect. In his words: “Personally, I don’t want fight. It is common for people in the industry to fight for one or two things. That should change. All of us will get to the top.”

Some of the songs to his credit include ‘Maria’, ‘2023’, ‘Boogie For Me’, ‘Strong Love’, and ‘The Result’. Speaking on what fans should expect from him, he said, “Fans should expect artistic impacts. I’m on the verge of making them smile and dance to my tune.”
