Super talented Nigerian afrobeats artiste, Odusanya James Olanrewaju (Jodex Rowland), though hailing from Ogun State, Nigeria, was born and raised in Lagos State. Starting in music as a young high school kid, who would gather his peers and classmates to freestyle for them, giving them a taste of his “special talent”, Jodex Rowland has over time evolved in his craft and has turned into a master in the afrobeats genre.
Patience is a virtue, and true perfection lies in the consistent practice of one’s art and craft. Jodex Rowland has spent years away from the headlines, taking a keen interest in personal investments in his music, sampling and playing around sounds, to bring about the Jodex Rowland we now have today. Originally a fan of trap music, his interest in afro is what has now shaped him into one of the finest afrobeats superstars to watch out for in the coming years.
Drawing Inspiration from afrobeats (afro fusion) superstars, Jodex Rowland has been particularly inspired by Burna Boy, whose legacy is something he looks to build upon, and even more. Jodex once said, “I love Burna Boy’s Philosophy and what he stands for, what he represents, I love how he keeps it real always, that is something my music is also all about, and what I want my listeners to have through my music.” He also added, that in the future, he would love to work with the African Giant, as that would be a dream come true.
Jodex Rowland released his first official studio single “Holiday”, in the year 2022. A romantic tune, one which revealed a side of Jodex Rowland. He has described himself as a guy, who like any other human, has desires, wants, and needs, and he is open about his sexual desires. In his words, he said, “I’m a guy who loves sex so much, and I don’t think people are who don’t, but you don’t see anyone talking about it, which is where I come in.” He keeps it real, and his music connects directly to the soul.
In March 2024, Jodex teamed up with Jayfred(the beat wizard) and Bhadboi OML, to deliver the track, “Sex Story”, and just like “Holiday”, this further she’d light into the personality and sexual interests of Jodex, as it is a song meant to surely get you in “the mood”, and bring out that naughty nature. The song saw the three amazing superstars give a perfect delivery to the track with each individual giving his “sex story”.
Having learnt from consistent practice, and the study of other great artistes, Jodex Rowland pours out his passion, his soul, into his “afro-fusion” sound. Telling relatable stories, and connecting massively with his listeners. This shouldn’t be surprising, as it had always been his goal, to be able to connect with his audience on a personal level, through his music.
In the coming years, Jodex hopes to continually dish out resounding and addictive tunes, hopping on various trends, sampling various elements, and implementing his discoveries to make more magic. He hopes to keep the authenticity of his music, giving genuine songs to his listeners, and he hopes, that they all would be able to relate with each track per time.
