The Headies is a Nigerian music award ceremony, which usually celebrates the best in the Nigerian music industry and across Africa. Usually a number of artists are nominated for an award category before the main event. It is an event that many look forward to.

This year’s Headies was not any different, before the day, many could be seen posting different things about it on their social media pages. The Headies coincident with the Man u and Arsenal match, but that did not stop alot of people from huddling in front of the TV trying to support their favorite artist.

The nominees were announced on the 24th of May, 2022. Seven new categories were added for the 2022 edition, and they include:

  • Best Afrobeat Pop Album (Nigeria)
  • Best African Collaboration
  • Best International Collaboration
  • African Artist of the Year
  • International Artist of the year
  • Music Executive of the year

The first ever Headies brunch was held at Los Angeles, and it was titled “Unveiling The First Ever Global Awards for Afrobeats Music”, with music from Pheelz, SPINALL, and Major League DJz.

The 2022 Headies, which happens to be the 15th edition, took place on Sunday, 4th of September, in Atlanta, USA. Wizkid and Tems who are Grammy award winners, were part of the top winners at the Headies, which was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, this is also the first time the show will be hosted outside Nigeria. BNXN FKA Buju won the Next Rated category, taking home a Bentley as the prize.
